History of the Community in the Parish:
In 1995 the PP, Fr Seamus Rice, welcomed Srs Philomena Walsh and Therese Carolan into the Parish of Coalisland.
On September 8th 1995, the Sisters began Parish Ministry in Coalisland and lived in a temporary residence in Brackaville which was owned by Mrs Mary Duffy.
Sr Helen Conway decided to purchase a house in The Brambles, Stewartstown which the Sisters moved into on September 16th 1996.
On October 16th, St Clare’s was officially opened and blessed by Archbishop Sean Brady- his first official engagement.
January 2002, The Sisters were honoured with the ‘Benemerenti Medal’ for their work in the Parish at a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Cathal Daly.
What type of Ministry (work, activities etc) is/are the Community/Sisters involved in?
Visiting the housebound, disabled, the bereaved and lonely.
Nursing homes are visited weekly.
A prayer service is held which includes saying the Rosary and distribution of Holy Communion.
Normally during Lent the Stations of the Cross are prayed by the Sisters in the public Church.
Involved with SPRED, safeguarding for the Parish, Chaplaincy in Craigavon Area Hospital, Baptismal Programmes, Divine Mercy Devotions, Bereavement Group, Spiritual Direction for the Pioneer Association and the St Joseph’s Young Priest’s Society, Sacristan
February 1st- Mass for the Year of Consecrated Life celebrated by Archbishop Martin
April 26th- Vocation Sunday- Mass of celebration with renewal of Vows for the Sisters
July 5th- Ordination of Priests for the Diocese
August 15th- Day for Religious in Knock
